No Man's Sky Foundation Update - Sean Murray e colleghi erano letteralmente scomparsi a seguito del lancio di No Man's Sky. Raramente un videogioco è stato criticato così aspramente dal pubblico pagante: molti utenti Steam hanno richiesto il rimborso dopo pochissime ore di gioco (alcuni anche dopo 30, da bravi "disonesti" NdR), e sia sullo stesso Steam che su altri canali si sono diffuse a macchia d'olio recensioni estremamente negative.

Dopo diversi mesi possiamo quindi intuire il perché della scomparsa del team di sviluppo facente parte della software house Hello Games: ignorando le critiche, il team era al lavoro sull'enorme Foundation Update, un aggiornamento che introduce tantissime novità ad un gioco che effettivamente era tutt'altro che perfetto. Il problema però non era tanto il gioco in sé, quanto le promesse dei mesi precedenti al lancio e il prezzo di listino da vero titolo tripla A.

Sta di fatto che gli sviluppatori hanno lavorato duramente per apportare un bel po' di novità.

Vediamo di riassumerle prima di lasciarvi con l'elenco completo delle aggiunte e con un filmato di circa 6 minuti che riassume il tutto. Le due novità più importanti riguardano la possibilità di costruire strutture sui pianeti e la possibilità di acquistare le fregate, enormi vascelli che possiamo richiamare in qualsiasi momento utili per offrirci un punto d'appoggio mobile e per immagazzinare le nostre risorse in eccesso.

È anche possibile assumere membri di varie razze aliene per ricoprire ruoli di ingegnere, coltivatore, addetto agli armamenti e scienziato. Troviamo poi nuove risorse, la possibilità di coltivare piante nelle nostre strutture o fregate, la possibilità di applicare estrattori di risorse in punti strategici e persino due nuove modalità di gioco, la così detta Creative Mode che permette ai giocatori di esplorare l'universo senza limiti e di costruire appunto un enorme base di riferimento, e Survival Mode, che proporrà sfide più complesse ai giocatori.
