Attenzione, appassionati di fotografia: la suite di filtri Nik Collection, acquisita da Google nel 2012 e poi rilasciata gratuitamente per tutti nel 2016, è nuovamente passata di mano. A possederla è adesso DxO, che almeno per ora continuerà ad offrirla in modo gratuito nella sua incarnazione attuale.

La notizia non sorprende troppo, visto che l'azienda di Mountain View aveva già annunciato l'abbandono dello sviluppo della Nik Collection lo scorso Giugno, per la necessità di dedicare la propria attenzione ad altri prodotti.

Quale sarà quindi adesso il futuro della tanto apprezzata suite di effetti fotografici? DxO ha già annunciato che essa, oltre a continuare ad essere distribuita sotto forma di plugin per Photoshop e Lightroom, sarà integrata in PhotoLab, una nuova versione di OpticsPro che incorporerà la tecnologia Nik U Point.

Nel futuro c'è però anche lo sviluppo di una nuova "Nik Collection 2018", che dovrebbe arrivare a metà del prossimo anno, e la cui esistenza fa venire dei dubbi sulla prosecuzione della distribuzione gratuita della versione attuale.

DxO acquires Nik Collection assets from Google and plans to set a new bar on Photo editing softwares

PARIS – October 25, 2017 – DxO, one of the most innovative companies in consumer imaging, today announced the acquisition of the Nik Collection assets from Google.

DxO plans to continue development of the Nik Collection. The current version will remain available for free on DxO’s dedicated website, while a new “Nik Collection 2018 Edition” is planned for mid-next year.

About the Nik Collection
